Mullets Should Be Illegal

Splatgirl & I happened upon this sign earlier this month and couldn't pass up the photo opportunity. I can't get over this sign! Are there so many people who have mullets to warrant a sign suggesting free removal? I guess I do live in the State of Hockey... I wonder how many customers took advantage of the offer? We laughed for quite a while after seeing this one.

And what the he!! is a fun foil?

I've Been Sneaky

Remember that Scrabble bag I was knitting? Well, it was for Tracy my blogging friend who gifted me with this lovely wool. She was also my sockapal2za pal so I wanted to extend my thanks for the great pair of socks I received. My nieces, SIL & brother sent me a shirt from Hawaii that matched the socks perfectly so I wore them on my birthday! Tracy received her new bag early this week and it sounds like she was surprised, the trick worked.

I also sent Paula of pjbknit a pile of pink prizes as a thank you for being a super secret pal 5! She is enjoying the gifties already!

Birthday Goodies

I had a fun birthday, which ended up being a weekend full of socializing. Saturday Kyle & I went to see The Corpse Bride, I liked it. Then we
went to my parents for dinner where my mom gave me this super cool flip flop quilt. She bought all the fabric in Hawaii when she was there in February. My sister-in-law helped her do the applique and then she finished it up at home. Some of the buttons came from my great-grandmothers button box. Now I have to figure out where I'll hang this one! Thanks mom!!

Sunday we went to brunch with my mother-in-law and I watched football while walking on our NEW treadmill, YAY! Splatgirl had us over for dinner, cocktails and the DH premier (loved it!). As far as knitting gifties go, Splatgirl and blogless Nikki got me a Yarn of the Month subscription for 1 year!! I can't wait until I start getting the samples in the mail.

Thanks to everyone for sending birthday greetings my way!

Easter in September

After Easter this Spring I planted my Easter Lily outside. Half way through the hot, dry summer it looked grim. The lily was dried up and I thought it was a gone-er (is this a word?). Lo and behold this past week I noticed it was ready to bloom!!! I took this photo on Saturday, the 2nd bloom is still closed. Has anyone heard of lilys blooming in September??

Target Buyers

Novaks8 must have been reading my mind when she commented the other day about Target selling yarn because I was just about to blog about it! [By the way Novaks8, thanks for commenting on my blog...I've tried to respond but I can't seem to post comments to yours]
I went to Target for a few things a week or so ago and happened upon the YARN aisle and not just any old yarn aisle...can you see those prices? $1, $1, $1, $1....

The needles weren't that great, very limited sizes and only single pointed. The yarn has potential however, I picked up some ladder yarn for mixing in with felted items. The acrylic yarn didn't even feel as plasticky as some. Great selection for beginners including pattern books and journals. Yay Target!

Happy Birthday To Meeeeeee!

This is me many years ago, 33 to be exact.

Last night Kyle & I went for my birthday dinner at Modern Cafe in Minneapolis, it was SO good. Tonight I'm headed to my parents house for dinner and Sunday we're going to Splatgirls for dinner and the Desperate Housewives season premier. Let the festivities begin!!

Sky

We couldn't have asked for a nicer day today, bright, clear and a little cool, 64º. I took this photo so I could enter Sandy's 'the sky is the limit' drawing. Sandy always posts great looking sky photos, mine doesn't even compare. Wow I just looked at her blog and she has 131 entries. That's a lot of skies...I need to go peek.

In the past I've posted much more interesting skies such as this one, this one or this one.

HP Bookscarf

Ahhhhh the 1st day of Fall, here in MN the weather definitely changed overnight with severe storms threatening our area all evening. Kyle's home from work due to a major power outage and there are school closings in our area. Luckily for us we have power and no damage but it sounds like others weren't so fortunate.
When I think of Fall I think of:
Warm days & cool nights
apple crisp
raking leaves
Halloween!
apple cider
hockey games
and of course my birthday!!! 2 more days....

This little Harry Potter Bookscarf has been my TV knitting lately, my entry for the Another Weasly Along hosted by Alison. It's a fun knit but a tad tedious since I'm using size 0 needles. And check out those teeny yarn balls. The pearl cotton is a dream to knit, nice and smooth. I wonder how many hanks it would take to knit a pair of socks???

Scrabble Bag = 20 Points

Well, here it is the Scrabble bag. Named as such from the stitch marker I used...probably won't ever see a game of Scrabble. The wool felted up nicely although it did take 4 hot / cold trips through the washer. It was a bit fuzzy so I took a scissor to it when it was dry and gave it a little trim.
Pattern: Knit for the Cure MN bag
Yarn: Briggs Little 100% Wool Blue Heather #42
Started: August 16
Finished: September 17 ( I didn't work on it for about 1 month )

I think I'll use it when I go to bookclub tonight...oops...I didn't finish the book. It's not that I don't like it, I've been in a bit of a reading funk lately.
Here's a shot of the bag before I felted it.

Bling Ring

I stopped at Bead Monkey on Saturday and picked up a kit to make this bling ring. I just finished it up. Splatgirl says it doesn't sound like my style and Kyle said it's weird but I like it.

Casey-waiting patiently this morning to be let outside and not amused AT ALL that all I was interested in was taking his photo. Turkey.

What a fabulous second to last day of summer! It's 86º!

Moto-Knitters

Last Thursday Splatgirl, blogless Nikki and I attended the first Moto-Knitters meeting at a local coffee shop Betty's Bike's & Buns right after a yummy dinner at Wilde Roast Cafe. It was nice to get together again to knit and talk since we haven't really done much of that over the summer. I was working on the Scrabble bag, Nikki on a Hayden hat and Splatgirl on a shrug. And yes Splatgirl, I forgot to take the almond roca out of my bag so I'll be sure to make it up to you next time.

Remember the little booties I knit for my cousins unborn baby? He was born this morning at 4:01 weighing in at 8#11oz. No name yet...

Go Knit

Each time I visit The Yarnery I see these cute go knit pouches by knowknits and today I finally caved in and bought one. There's a little loop on the inside to feed the yarn through and it cinches up tight for clean storage, it's made from parachute-type material. It beats a ziploc and it's awfully colorful too.

Just down the block is Cooks of Crocus Hill where my friends & I took a great cooking class Thursday night. The class was taught by Odessa Piper, a Wisconsin restaurant owner and chef. I had a coupon from the class so of course I had to browse. The other night I had my eyes on this but didn't buy since I knew I'd be coming back. The six pack byobag was one of my purchases today along with all these pink goodies. Pink grapefruit green tea, a pink spatula and spoonula, a salt scoop and a pink Orka mitt!

And last but not least, Casey's photo for the day.

New Knits

Remember The Club? Ya know the giant red anti-theft device you clamp onto a steering wheel to deter thieves? Well, I used to think my car was the shiz-nitz and I'd clamp that thing onto the wheel every time I left the car. Never mind the fact that the key is about as thin as a paper clip so in no time flat would a thief (or 10 year old) be able to bust the lock right open. And who in their right mind would steal a Cavalier? This morning I saw a Club in use on a 1990 Acura. No disrespect to Acura owners but PEOPLE, car thieves are not after 25 year old Acuras. Let the Club go! In my defense I think I stopped using the Club when my car was a couple years old.
No one is going to steal this beauty away from me, it's the retro-rib pattern from Winter 04 IK. I love this pattern. And I'm using the kool-aid dyed yarn I made back in July! Is there a Club available for yarn? Now that's something I might consider ;-)

I'm also knitting what I'm calling the Scrabble bag, for obvious reasons. The yarn is from a swap with my sockapal-2-za pal, sneaky Tracy.

I did a little shopping this afternoon...maybe I'll share later...

Sock Chum

Look at what I received today!!! One problem though...there wasn't a note telling me who my sock chum is. Oh wait a minute!! Doesn't the envelope look strikingly similar to this one? Tracy is a sneaky sock chum, that's for sure. She traded some yarn with me back in August and we've been playing a few friendly games of Scrabble on-line. Along with the socks she threw in some extra yarn and chocolates, mmm.

Look at how the argyle pattern shows up on the socks and they fit perfectly too! I love them!

Tonight I'm getting together with some friends for our new Moto-Knitters night, ya know...motorcycles & knitting, they go hand in hand! I think I'll bring those chocolate candies with me.
Thanks again Tracy, the socks are fabulous!

Happy Birthday Chris!

Today is my brother's birthday! Hope you have a good one.

Did you get your present?

On It's Way / Self Portrait Tuesday

Since my sock pal does not have a blog (clue #1) that gives me the opportunity to show off the package since she can't. Hopefully I'll get all of the goodies into the little envelope without scrunching anything. I enclosed a ball of leftovers, a few photos showing where her socks have been the last 3 months, a MN postcard, and some sock shaped point protectors. I took the sock band idea from Black Olives new socks, they're fabulous. I'm off to the post office to send these beauties off...my sock pal lives fairly close...I've driven there before (clue #2). I'll reveal her identity on Thursday, the last day of Sockapal-2-za.

Casy chased a squirrel up the tree today.

Self portrait Tuesday photo over here.

This photo does not completely represent the color so if you really want to know what the socks look like click here. Maybe tomorrows weather will be more conducive for photography and I'll get a better shot.

My final secret pal 5 package arrived today! I assured Paula that it would make it and it did ;-) The box was FULL of goodies! Two sock pattern books, a dog knits book, sock yarn and more sock yarn, adagio tea!, some scrapbook goodies, a bookmark and little dog frame, some hand-made stitch markers (thank you!) and a ball for Casey! He's already been going nuts with it. Thank you very much Paula!! You certainly outdid yourself! Go look at the veggies she harvested today, YUM.
